This past July I was lucky enough to join the Ottawa Valley Strong Fastpitch Team and travel to Turino, Italy to compete in the European Masters Games 2019.
The European Masters Games are an international sporting event that takes place very four years in order to promote physical activity and are open to athletes from all over the world competing in many sports: from basketball to football, from badminton to swimming, from golf to archery.
This was my first Masters Games and it definitely won’t be my last, it was truly an experience that I won’t soon forget.
We arrived a few days before the Opening Ceremonies to get acclimated to the time change. We took advantage of those days to try and see as much of Torino and the surrounding areas as possible.
I am a veracious wine lover and the Piedmont region is famous for it’s wine, so a wine tour was definitely in the cards.
We hired wonderful drivers and guide to take us through the Piedmont region, visiting:
2 fantastic wineries (Conterno Fantino and Marchesi di Barolo) and stopped to see the sights in La Morra, Barolo and Barbaresco including a fabulous lunch at Vittorio Veneto.

OPENING CEREMONY
Parading through the streets of Torino with all the athletes enjoying meeting other competitors and athletes from around the world and even fellow Ottawa athletes competing in Tae Kwon Do!
THE GAMES
To say it was HOT is an understatement!
The games were very fierce and fun and we enjoyed EVERY minute of them.
Coming home with a medal was awesome. Such an amazing experience on the field and off.
